Windows 7 search facilities?

Is there supposed to be an advanced 'search' availability on windows 7?and if so, then how are you supposed to access it and what does it do??

open windows explorer.
Top right, adjacent to the address bar is a search bar
Start typing, and as you type, all the matching items appear below.
It's much faster and easier than the XP search - even if, like me, you've turned off indexing.

You also get the search bar at the bottom left of the main Windows menu.

If you search in there you get everything on your computer listed for whatever you searched for, be it a program, a file, a piece of music or whatever.

If you search in Google for "Windows 7 search" you get all sorts of articles about it.

Thanks for the answers . But I am in a bit of confusion here. When I click in the bottom left 'search box',I get nothing , yet if I open explorer and use the upper right 'search box' I get the results I'm after. I haven't yet started using the filtering options, but I don't understand why the bottom left 'search box' doesn't work.
And incidentally Rojash,what do you mean when you say "you've turned indexing off"?

Can't help you with your first problem, I'm afraid: what should happen is that as soon as you start typing in the "search programs and files" box on the Start menu, the menu pane should be replaced by a results pane showing all matching files. I don't use that method, because it search the entire computer, and I generally know at least the approximate location of what I'm looking for, so prefer to go there and do the search (e.g. if it's a downloaded file, I'll open Downloads in explorer, and then start searching).

Re turning off indexing:
Indexing runs as a background process and keeps an index of all your files, which is supposed to make searching faster. I don't like unnecessary programs running in the background, so I turned it off as follows:
Control Panel
Indexing Options
Modify
Uncheck all locations
