How come the high school that I only started going to for the sixth form in september always seems to have PD days (students don't have to go in) but my old high school that I go to some of the time doesn't? Plus this one i've only just started going to always seems to have lots of days where it's closed for other reasons, or times where the teachers spend all day with their form group . . . .

The were reserved for days when the school might have to close, such as election time. My first school used to take two days in December as we were not used as a polling booth so did not need to close for elections. This gave rise to the 'Christmas shopping' myth.
