Abortive Conveyancing Costs?

Any idea how much conveyancers charge for abortive costs. We have had a house purchase and sale ongoing for 6 long months, when our buyers pulled out and another one up the chain this week due it all taking so long just before exchange of contracts. We paid £300 on account to our conveyancers which has been used for searches etc. and through no fault of our own have had to pull out, they are going to bill us for "abortive costs". Any idea how much this is going to be, not looking forward to a huge bill when it was not our fault???!!!

look at it this way - it's not their faul;t either.
Wouldn't it be simpler just to ask them?

Obviously I did ask them.........! They said they would calculate it and send it to me. That was last week...... to be honest they were crap anyway, and had the front to charge me £70 for phone calls, they never rang me one, it was me doing all the chasing around........jokers!

Solicitors will charge for phone call time even if you phone them!! They charge by the minute for any time they spend on a job.

When my mum sold up last year the conveyancer worked on a no sale, no fee basis. Maybe you can find someone who will work on that basis next time.
