My mate is having trouble with his diesel Nissan Primera, and the garage have told him it sounds like a problem with the egf. What is an egf?

Common problem on a lot of diesels .. escpecially Ford car diesels.
EGR valve problems. All part of the system to get diesels to burn cleaner with less emissions.
