How can this be eradicated? I know you can buy special blades from Halfords etc, but even these start to squeak.

Somebody once suggested wiping them with a vinegar soaked rag, but I've never actually tried it.
The easy way to eradicate wiper blades is to park on a rough housing estate for 5 minutes. Don't park any longer though or you may find that the wheels have also been eradicated.
Are they too tight? I had a similar problem and I think the garage loosened them a bit, don't know how, sorry!
a bit of meths on each blade will cure it.

Hmm, special blades from Halfords. They are my favoured supplier for powdered unicorn horn and hobby horse poo but that's all I would buy from them.

As already suggested, vinegar or meths but be sure to use a cloth and not paper towels. The paper seems to get a grip and tears the blade.
You can also clean blades and screen with neat washer fluid.

Also, check that the arms are sitting parrallel to the screen. You might need to twist them slightly so that they sit right.

Vinegar seems the easy solution but can you put it into your windscreen washer tank?
they recon white vinegar is the best to use...the clear stuff not the stuff you put on chips.
