I'm trying to convert some music files I have downloaded in iTunes to mp3 format. I right click on the file, then click on "convert selection to mp3 format". But then it tells me "protected files cannot be converted to other formats".

Anyone know how I can "unprotect" these files so I can convert them?

Thanks

As the message says you can't do a direct conversion, what you have to do is burn them as an adio CD and then re-rip them as mp3
welcome to the wonders of DRM'd files. Do not buy anything else from the iTunes Music Store, nor any other music store that adds DRM (most that you've heard of).
