He got into serious trouble as a teenager and spent many years in prison. Now, only months after his release he's been arrested again. Did our prison system fail him if it didn't help him see the error of his ways and help him change?

He was a convicted murderer who robbed a family of their husband and father. The prison system failed him because he was freed. If he "got into trouble" as a teenager, that was the time he should have been made to see the error of his ways.
why do you ask whether the system failed him, maybe quite possibly he should have taken responsibility for his actions and changed himself.

or do we all need the sytem to tell us how to act and behave like normal human beings?

i like the fact a judge rules he couldn't be deported to italy as it would affect his human rights, i guess the family of Mr lawrence have to forgo their rights.
