painful, sweaty, stinging bum cheeks
18 Answers
I know this sounds like a comedy ailment but my boyfriend suffers from the above. It is caused through chaffing, he has to douse the crack of his bum in talc throughout the day but this only gives temporary relief. He isn't over weight, is very fit so there is nothing that can be done in the arse cheek department. Any realistic suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi splange I had a friend who had this problem and he was a bit over weight, he had a small operation to take a bit away and it worked great, he was up and about in no time delighted, but before you go there it might be he is wearing the wrong underpants, ie nylon etc, or and to tight, try some old fashion roomy cotton ones for awhile no one will know or see unless he lets them, also don't sit directly on plastic seats put some cloth on them. Hope this helps good luck.
It's ok, I'm not laughing, a sore bum is definitely not funny! I think that the talc might be making things worse by clogging up the skin. After a bath/shower make sure the skin is thoroughly dry & apply some antiseptic healing cream - Sudocrem for instance (you use it on babies so it shouldn't do any harm). If it's not getting better in a few days it might be wise to pop to the doctor - don't be embarrassed they see a lot more than sore bums - 'cos the last thing anyone wants down under is dermatitis. Good luck!
Ironically the fitter he is the worse it will be, as a set of tight muscular buns will be closer together and therefore will allow less fresh air in, and will be sweatier and hotter. Lots of washing, plus dabbing dry (not rubbing) and the afore mentioned cotton drawers will help, however, IMO I would avoid any creams or vaseline etc, just makes it more damp and sticky. I had a small split in my natal cleft during the last hot summer we had, and my wife applied betadene powder spray, its antiseptic, but above all, its totally dry. It healed the split up a treat. The only bad news was it stung like a ****** when she put it on! Available from Boots.
hi there splange, having a sweaty arse is no laughing matter. your boyfriend could have eczema on his bum and if he has had this problem for a while it could have an infection aswell. go to the doc's because if it infected he can clear it up with some antibiotics and if it eczema that needs to be brought under control he may give him some steriodal cream. Of course it has to be agreed that 100% cotton boxers shorts help the skin breathe and keeping it sweat free with as much washing as poss and some kind of water based cream applied at least 2x a day more would be better. i hope this helps you in some small way.
The cream was probably Daktarin - an anti-fungal cream for sensitive bits ;) It could well be a fungal infection caused by heat and trapped moisture/sweat etc. These often give soreness, itchiness and something breaks in the skin which can bleed when scratched or irritated. Lamisil is one ointment to truff or perhaps something herbal like Tea Tree Oil which has anti-fungal properties,
I recently saw a young man at the surgery, with a very similar problem. The symptoms sounded like pressure sores, although the man was a post man, so i cant imagine him sitting down all day. After examination it turned out to be a moist eczema. This was simply cleared up in a matter of days with Sprilon Spray, which can be prescribed by your doctor. It can be used any time there is istching or pain, as a mild pain releiver, aswell as a topical antibiotic. It can be used even when sweating, and provides whats called a 'barrier' to stop further irritation. One word of warning though, its highly flammable, so take care!
