computer locked

Good morning everyone..will any one help a novice laptop user.When I switched on to windows this morning it came up with my name and underneath the words locked, I fiddled about a bit but eventually switched off the broadband switched back on and it said press F2 which I did and eventually got back into my google homepage, but now my mouse does not work the curser.. and ideas what I do if this locked on comes again and how to get my mouse working..sorry to sound such a woss but I am a senior citizen and this computer thing does not come easy to me..thanks in advance
