I still have a very battered table decoration with a tatty silver tree and a Santa, which was made by my late mother in her eighties, and won first prize in a competition in the home where she then lived. It needs to go, but I can't do it.

hi boxtops im the same with my little robin [sad i know lol].... it was my grandmas and she had it on her tree and i remember seeing it on her tree when i was little i dont know how i got possesion of it but i cant bear not to have it on the tree every year....yours is a lovely story..x
The oldest is probably a shiny green pixi that was my mother-in-laws. The most cherished now is the last Christmas card my son;' late friend Danny gave to my grandson.
Strange how we keep things, stoke - my grandma died when I was eight so I don't remember her that well, but I still have bits and pieces around the house now that I remember in her house, or I used to play with when we went there. They don't go in my house at all, but they were grandma's,
That's nice, dotty - the last cards can be very poignant.
I hate that feckin pixi, every year I think it is learing at me, one year it will go in the bin!
I have two or three very old (1940's) decorations that I put on the proper Christmas tree. I have one of the fibre optic ones now so I don't always bother with the big tree. This year I won't because we will be away until mid January. But I don't want to part with the old decorations no matter what.

actually i tell a lie i was 12 and he was 13...he was the 1 that used to go to church every weekend and live with god fearing parents and we were the ones that used to run amok around the neighbourhood...oh well god works in mysterious ways...
i always put an old photo of my mate billy on the top of my christmas tree where the fairy would go
A few years ago I handed Big Sis a very old 3D Christmas card of a nativity scene that her godparents had sent to her when she was a little girl. She was chuffed to mintballs. This is the same Big Sis who criticises me for keeping everything. She puts the card out every year now ;o)
LOL dotty, I have a kewpie doll, just a small pink plastic doll with a piece of gold tinfoil around her waist and a pipe cleaner halo with silver tinsel wrapped around it. It's old like the tree ornaments, but I still have it. Most un-cool it wouldn't be seen dead on one of the colour co-ordinated trees that they have now.
We have 2 angels, one made from a toilet roll holder with a ping pong ball head and the other from a doilly which our 30odd year old daughters made in Kindergarten many years ago. There's an argument every year about whose turn it is to top the tree. Unfortunately, I've lost the doilly angel!
Same as stoke. My Robin has been in our family for a long long time. My Mum gave it to me when I got my first place and had Christmas.
a santa boot my now 19 year old made when she was 4 x
We have a hanging decoration and it's the only one we ever put on the ceiling. It's a silver ring with several Santa's hanging down and then one hanging down in the middle. We worked out it's at least 30 years old and it's completely intact.

We also use the same Angel on the of the tree that we have used for about 30 years also. She begining to look a bit haggered these days though. Sadly she won't be making an appearane this year as we have no room for a tree.
I have a crappy little tree top angel that I made at prep school ...

... so she's almost 40 years old ... and she looks it.

I still plonk her on top of the tree each year, though.
My sister took all our family decorations while I was working abroad so I have to go to her house for any memories of Christmasses gone by. I bought green lights and loads of glass and silver decorations so my tree looks magical anyway but iwa a bit put out at the time.
