Auto Renaming Files

Hi all. Got a rather technical question. How can I get a file to rename itself when it is uploaded to a server. I'm going to be having alot of files with the same name being sent to my server and unless they can rename themselves they will get overwritten

FYI, the people uploading the files won't be able to change the file name

I'm not sure if this could be done automatically. The techie brains will be around soon...

One way would be to copy them all into a single folder and rename them as you go, and then upload them from this new folder.

What sort of files are these, if you don't mind?

The files will be sent from an application to my server so the senders can't remane as it's within the application.

Also, I can't rename them myself as they will be sent to my server and if they are not renamed they will overwrite themselves before I get to them
It is a txt file that they will be sending I think. We tried to change it to a bat file and put something in the command prompt but it didn't seem to work.

What server? what's it running and what type of server is it? and how exactly do users upload to it?

They will be uploaded at random times depending on when people do it. They are getting sent to the server that holds my website. i just need to know if there is a way in which the files can rename themselves when they arrive at my server e.g. file1, file2 etc or with the date and time otherswise the server will think it is the same file and overwrite the one already there so i will not see all the files sent.

Or if not, if i can do something which forwards the files received straight to my email address then i wouldnt have to rename them.
