So what are you having for the most celebrated meal of the week?

I'm cooking (though not until much later on tonight) racks of lamb, roasties, glazed carrots with fresh chives, broccoli and another veg - but for the life of me, I can't remember what it is!

I'm doing a starter of goats' cheese and stilton stuffed mushrooms in tempura batter.

This will be served with my nomination for wine of the week: McGuigan's Aussie Merlot, currently on offer in Tesco at £5.99. An ideal wine if you like heaps of complexity, warmth and depth from a red. :-)

Anyone seen Newsdesk? He loves my threads about food and wine.

It not cordon bleu but it's better than standard pub fayre (ie Scampi and chips).

If you Googled The Swan, Newbury and looked at their menu, that would give you a rough idea of the standard required to be defined as a "gastropub"
Cheers NoM -missed your post.I shall do that.
thanx for the aviso/warning nom, at least i´ll know what to expect after its been drunk. as i´m in wine paradise, i´m always trying different wines. after being here 4 years, i must´ve tried about 70 different reds, and only about 10 different whites. i usually pay anything between 3 and 8 euros.
