We all know December 25th is Jesus' birthday and we celebrate it without fail every year, even though he hasn't even shown his face for 2000 years. Then poor old Santa, who works his arse off every Christmas never seems to get a birthday bash. Does anyone know the date of Santa's birthday so we can have a knees up in his honour.
Sorry to be pedantic Flobadob but Christmas is nothing to do with Jesus's birthday.
When Christianity gained a foothold in Britain in the 4th and then 6th centuries AD it was recognised that the old Celtic mid-winter festival of Saturnalia was too strong to be abandoned. Instead, the church decided to supercede Saturnalia with a celebration of the birth of Christ - which came to be called Christmas.
