Speeding Not Ice Causes Deaths

Sadly two teenagers died last night and it was blamed on the conditions. Nobody dies in a crash at 20mph. Speed and bad driving caused their deaths Not the ice and snow.

I don't find anyone dying before their time amusing at all, but we can't weep for all of them. Your "joke" just wasn't funny.

my brother is alot older then me and he has had a few to many crashes, one of my friends was driveing in snowy weather and he was driveing about 20mph, and be could not stop the car slideing on the ice and went down a steep banking and shattered both his legs, he cant walk now and is lucky to be alive, people cant really judge because people never qwite know the secustances. but it is a tragic loss. i feel sad for the family's. :-( xxx

As i am responsible for a euro route in the UK i have access to accident investigations and statistics and from personal experience i can quite happily say that it is the speed at which people drive in these conditions which kills and not the ice or snow!

Yes the weather conditions are a large contributory factor but i have been to many accidents where a car travelling at 20mph hits ice loses control goes off the road and ends up in a ditch or hitting a tree and the driver walks away injured but nothing serious! Following days/week exact same location and a car travelling at 50mph + hits the same bit of ice car ends up in the same ditch or hitting the same tree and the driver ends up with massive injuries and is being cut out of the car with the body bag waiting at the side!

I know people are going to turn around and say that the ice could of been worse the second timebut i was at an accident last January where the road conditions were awful, lots of black ice and freezing fog and a guy had been travelling between 15 & 20mph hit a patch of black ice and ended up hitting a tree, he was injured but was ok! The area of ice was treated and signs warning of black ice were put in place Within 3 hours of the first incident a young lad hit the ice doing around 60mph spun his car and hit the same tree and died instantly. The conditions in which he crashed were better than when the first driver had his accident and the only difference was the speed!

People need to slow down in icy conditions, if the police say that you should only travel if its necessary they are saying it for a reason!

Dancechip, that is exactly the point I was making. Speed Kills no matter what the weather but in icy conditions it is imperative to drive slowly.

Wasn't trying to be hurtful or clever just realistic.
