sky box going to sleep

My Sky box is ok but 2 of my friends in my street get a message on there screen that their sky box is going to sleep and to press back up to return to usual programme. This happens a few times in the week. Any ideas why this happens. It has been reported to sky but it still does it.

Happens to me all the time with the tele in the bedroom.I have the older style skybox there if that makes a difference.Kinda like it as I have to have the tele on to go to sleep so not only does it switch Sky off it switches the tele off.(?)

Hi Dris these are both up todate sky boxes. As I said I am just a few doors away from both of them and mine never does it . Must be little gremlins around lol. Bye the way are you bad with snow up there.

hmm thats strange as it never happens with the new style box we have in the lounge -hope someone can come up with an answer as it is weird and only started a couple months back with me...
We are really bad with snow but the plumetting temeratures have been the most hazardous -was -21 just 30 miles from me over Thusday night -truly baltic.We'll get there tho :)
Hope youre coping with it -its a blooming nuisance isnt it?

My dad's machine does this when the telly's been on for about 4 hours without the channel being switched over. I thought that it was the sky box thinking as there's been no change of channel it may have been left on by mistake so switches itself off... I may be wrong (probably am!)...

Yes Dris I asked because I lived in North of Scotland for many years and have got up in the morning and not been able to get out the door just faced with a white blanket of snow. Here in the midlands was not too bad where I am just the side roads were treacherous for ages.

my sky did that if left on same channel for awhile. there is something in the settings somewhere to change this on your remote. there is a time setting and I had to change mine to none. Would have to look again to give you instructions on how this is done but it is there

The sleep facility is there to save electricity when you're not using it. If they don't watch it through the night, it's useful to set it for, say 2 am and then they can switch it back on later.

To remove it totally, press the 'Services' button on your Sky remote and look for the Standby option on your menu. Select it and change it to 'Off' and then save.

If it's Sky + ...

Press the Services button on your Sky remote.
Press 5 for Sky+ Setup.
Push up twice to highlight Auto Standby.
Push left (or right) once to change ON to OFF.
Push down once to highlight Save New Settings and press Select.
Push the Sky button to return to whatever you were watching.

Hi Sky send an automatic signal out every night to save electricity.this will happen whatever you set your settings,Just remember to power one when you want to watch tv.

Hi picker. This happens to my friends tv 4 or 5 times in the week and in the daytime when watching a programme. Never once happened to mine and I live near then.

As I said Sky aotomatically send out switch off signal at 1 or 2 am even if you are watching a programme.just switch back on.The daytime problem sounds like it's a menue fix you can do yourself.
