At Christmas, what's more important .... money - aka presents and toys - or love and family and friends being together?

The joy of giving, mamya. She sounds like her mother's daughter ♥ For children, bless them, it is materialistic. For adults, I think it should be more spiritual.
Oh Ena that is so kind of you, I meant to say it gave us huge pleasure, even her younger sister never said 'what about me' they seemed so attuned to this need, even to the point of talking of this family on Christmas Day, children are indeed the wise ones.
Nothing for me im afraid -I just resent that my husband and I are forced to take hard earned holdays in the middle of winter for something we dont celebrate:(
Oh dear Dris I hate to hear you sounding so down sweetheart, I wish things could be better for you and hope your lovely man has a well deserved rest.

Having typed that I see you do not believe, sorry you are not Christians then, am sorry to have presumed that,
It made me smile though Dris - considering the definition of a holiday in original terms ;o) However, I hope you both have a lovely rest and enjoy time in each other's company. I am sure that will be something you celebrate ♥
spending tome with loved ones

I think Christmas just magnifies who people are all year with regards to friends and family vs. money and stuff. I'm personally always happier to spend time with family than to get a present however nice it is, generally because if I want something I buy it myself. What IS nice however is kids buying you presents that they've thought hard about however small, but I would never make money and ' stuff' my God because that comes back to haunt you badly.
The Sikhs on the corner are not Christians but they still join in, give cards and presents and have seasonal food. You don't necessarily have to believe the same things to enjoy.
I think it is all about the presents, afterall, love and family and friends being together isn't just for christmas right?

However, that being said, my 6 year old said the other day "I can't wait for Christmas, i'll get lots of presents", and that saddened me a bit, so in an effort to get her to realise why we really have a christmas i'm taking her to the Blessing of the crib thing at our local church on Christmas Eve.
"i'm taking her to the Blessing of the crib thing at our local church on Christmas Eve"
Yikes! Not so sure the punishment fits the crime . . .
Boo what a lovely answer and you are quite right of course. Hope you and your little one enjoy the Blessing.

lol Vibra.

Awww give over mibn, I bet it's lovely, im really looking forward to it. Apparently each child takes a pece of nativity to the errr, well nativity and it gets blessed. Then we all sing proper Christmas carols holding candles.

I just want to reinforce what Christmas is, apart from the fat man in red theme. I'm hoping even at 6 she gets "it"- well, i can hope anyway.

Thanks Starbuckone, will let you know how it goes, well once i've finished blubbing anyway, im bound to get emotional and make a prat of myself, I always do!
don't think money is the same as presents and toys - except if you're putting yourself in the shoes of the one giving them. If you can empathise with the receiver, it's receiving a gift that someone's thought about and got for you. I've never had any problems with the giving (or the receiving, come to that). If it's mutual, so much the better.
and me too vibra - don[t be so soddin greedy.....
