Sony Camcorder issue

I tried asking this once before with no responses...So here goes again.

I have a camcorder. It worked fine and was looked after well.
It is still relatively new as well.

But then one day when I tried to look through the viewer and about to start recording I could see nothing through the camera...black !! The cap was off, I can playback old video in it and see it, so its not the screen.

Why cant I see through the camera when I want to record something, what is wrong with it?

When I had that problem with my Sony,I'd knocked a little button that changed the way I viewed to record, from the eye viewer to the LCD screen. Took me ages to realise it too. Could possibly be something similar.

Yorky las has got it right , you must put the camcorder into camera mode to see thru the view finder and into play or view mode to play the tape .
