Adobe Photoshop red-eye removal

I have a try-out version of Photoshop 6.0 from a computer magazine cover cd. This works fine except I can't find how to remove red-eye from my flash photos. Am I being thick or missing something obvious?

There isn't a single action that you can do this with, there are lots of different ways, but no "red eye" button as such.

I would do it by zooming in close, selecting all the red areas with the magic wand tool, (feather it by 2 or 3 pixels so there is no hard edge) then desaturate the selected area (press "control" and "u" at the same time to bring up the relevant box) and play with the sliders till it looks right.

I have Photoshop but find the redeye remover in Picasa2 ( downloadable from Google) far easier to use. No messing about at all. Just highlight the area to be adjusted and it's done.

Pauln90's link was particularly interesting as there are a number of very useful tutorials. Mariner2's summary was very succinct and covered much the same procedure as in the tutorial.
I didn't think that I could use Picasa2, as suggested by Yorky Lass, with my steam driven Win98 but it turns out I was wrong! I have downloaded it and opened up a whole new world of photo storage, viewing and editing. The red eye removal is simple and similar to the procedures in Irfan and other freebies - maybe a little too simple as it seems to rely on rectangles which isn't always perfect when red irises are usually circular. Nevertheless, it's a handy tool and, as I say, the rest of the software is well worth having.

There is a menu tool in Photoshop Elements which is quite effective also (if you want an easy solution)
