Does the word law and solicitor begin with a capital letter?

The word solicitor is a noun isn't it, so surely that should begin with a capital letter? As for the word law, I am unsure. It's for my personal statement. TIA

i don't see why - table is also a noun, but i wouldn't capitalise that. I also don't see why law should be capitalised

No neither are capitalised in my opinion.

Germans still capitalise nouns but in English it's not normal not to, except for personal nouns (names of companies and brands)

"solicitor" is a noun, but not a "proper noun" ... so no capital.

It's like your parents.

I love my "daddy" (simple noun)

I love "Daddy" (proper noun)

I like it when my mummy bakes cakes.

I like it when Mummy bakes cakes.

(nb. I don't actually call her "Mummy" ... she is Mums or Momba).

I would say:
Capitalise it only as part of a title ... 'Editor's Law of Suspension'.
Do not capitalise when referring to a general subject ... internet law.

A "proper noun" is a title, as opposed to a description.

So "the Law" as the name given to our collective statutory and other rules, is a title ...

... hence, " the Law is an ass."

But "law" as a subject which studies and interprets those rules, is not.

So ... "I studied law"

That is why ... my dad is called Daddy. Some people's mums and dads are called Mum, or Dad.
