I also have noticed you persistently quoting your own experiences rather than statute law and we'd all be better informed if you didn't do it; it confuses the punters and ends up in an unnecessary debate.
Chris is correct, as usual, and employers have to contract with employees such that the shifts satisfy the minimum statutory requirements. Most employers do not pay staff during the statutory breaks, but a few may do - as Hopkirk observed.
