Start up programs
7 Answers
Hi, this may be obvious to most people but I am still finding my way around computers,
anyway I am running Windows XP and on booting up several programs appear in the
"Bottom" task bar which presumably means they are loaded on start up, as there are several that are not needed on starting how do I remove them from the start up list?

go into 'start'
then in the 'search' area type in 'msconfig'
this will bring up all your start up programs and you can 'untick' the ones you wish.
i think this is right, but no doubt some one more knowledgeable will pop along soon and sort you out :o)

Looobylooo is on the right track but from START go to RUN. Type in MSCONFIG, Click OK and then click the STARTUP tab in the next panel.
There will be a lot of programs on the list that you will not recognise so don't remove the tick (to stop them activating at startup) unless you are certain you know what the programs actually do.
You can always Google to find out what they actually do and if they are needed.
If they are not needed every time at startup just remove the tick from the box, they can always be started when required from the shortcut on the desk top.
