You may be very interested in the following report on my daughter-in-law. She had Spontaneous CSF and NOT the usual Trauma CSF. She was told by the surgeon that this was extremely rare. She had no signs of any trauma and they have put it down to, what they think is a birth defect. It was a first case for her neuro-surgeon and her consultanat ENT surgeon was in on the operation as he had never seen this before. According to my son, this pair were both excited about doing the operation!! It seems, like you have stated yourself, so rare, that there are only 500 cases recorded worldwide. When they went into the skull they found the tegmen bone transparent also, so they fixed this at the same time.
