I think it's more the fact that, with very few exceptions, the owners and directors of the top football clubs know nothing whatsoever about football.

"When a man buys a club like Mike Ashley did, and he knows as little about football as he does, he is likely to make these sort of mistakes and these sort of judgements, and still think he is doing okay."

I could not agree with you more MarkRae ! Club Directors at many of these Clubs have little regard as to what the Fans think either.

To have returned from the Championship to the Premiership at the first time of asking is a huge achievement in itself, let alone having done it with 102 points and an unbeaten home record!

To have put 6 past Villa and 5 past the old rivals was wonderful to see, of course, but for me the real achievements were beating Arsenal at the Emirates so soon after losing badly to them at home, and holding Chelsea to a 1-1 draw. Admittedly, we had a bad result away at Bolton, but something like that's always going to happen to any club in any given season.

Newcastle have one task, and only one task, to accomplish this season and that is to finish 17th or higher. I don't know anyone who thought we were in any danger of going down before Hughton's dismissal. Now, however, it's a different story and I would not be surprised if Ashley has relegated us for the second time...

Allardyce will have been paid magnificently, he will be paid off very nicely and will walk into another highly paid job soon.

It is hard to feel sympathy.

It doesn't always have to equate to remuneration. If you like the job you are doing and you think that you are doing at least ok then getting dumped for no reason could really p*ss you off.
