I have solved almost all of this but am still stuck on the final "otherwise unclued" words, and the very gentle hints from other posters here are too subtle for me - I cannot get anything out of "parsing" or "splitting" the magic word. Could somebody please prod me a bit harder.

In that case - the word means anonymous works, and is from the Greek "without master/s".
Bradford is so useful - one for your Christmas list perhaps, RossR!

Hi RossR - the way I got it was by looking in Bradfords under "anonymous", and finding a word that, with a bit of pruning, fitted into the unclued light to the far right of the grid.
If you split the thematic character 3-2, this may further help.

Thanks, slaney, but I don't have Bradfords. But I'll brainstorm on that word and see if any pennies drop.

I finally got it from unclued 33 down, type of coffee bean, and splitting the character 3-1'1, good puzzle.
