On the way to Nottingham on the tram, in a rowan tree. What a beautiful bird! It's the first i've seen since last year, although we have had a big influx this time. Just think, they have flown here from Scandinavia to escape their harsh winter.

naz, i don't think there are enough regular birders to keep the dedicated birders thread going, there seem to be less than half a dozen who regularly post.

Tnanks Naz for the link. I only come on here after looking at my ebay sales, and didn't know a bird section was being set up. Great!
Fair point, yet there have been many bird-related posts, by numerous members, they're just scattered around AB looking for a home.

All placed together, I think we'd have a larger following than the dedicated Pregnancy or Share Dealing topics.
@ ethandron ^^
My brother lives in Bracknell and he keeps bird identifiers and a list of all the birds that visit the trees and feeders in his garden. It's surprising how many do and the list runs to two pages.

I live in the Chilterns and we have loads of red kites here. They were reintroduced here several years ago and their numbers have exploded. They've now moved into the town and my wife and I usually see the local pair and their chicks whenever we look out the window. Last year I counted 8 red kites together following a tractor cutting hay. They were obviously catching the animals running from the cutting and flying into nearby trees with their prizes. They are very impressive birds and it's surprising how huge they are when you see them up close.
If you can ever get to Nant yr Arian, you'll typically see 80-120 Red Kites filling the sky ... as you say, they're very impressive.
I remember in the 70s when red kites were very rare making a specific drive through the Elan valley to see one - there was a pair flying and lots of people had stopped to watch them.

My wife and i went to New Quay in Wales this year. Red kites were everywhere. Also on the M40 corridor, you can guarantee to see at least one
I saw 3 male pheasants strutting their stuff but no whisky bottles. Should I feed them as there were fox prints in the snow ?
We saw one near Walsall last week as we were heading up the M6. It seems they are doing incredibly well and spreading all over the country. It's good to hear of a success story for once.
Islowry, I'm about 20 miles from New Quay, there's Red Kites over my house daily.

jaydah, had those Pheasant chased away the Grouse?
We had a flock of Siberian White Fronted Geese dropping into a field of sprouting wheat
(E Yorks Coast)yesterday at dusk. Do you still get the Greenland WFG in Mid Wales Naz?
Can't say I've seen one recently, seadogg. I think they're usually up at Ynys-hir. I haven't been up there this year.
