turning off services in msconfig, in win xp...
5 Answers
only 3 of these are listed as essential, but theres about 40-odd listed...could someone have a look in a win xp and tell which ones, if any, i can disable without causing any issues.
I am a home user and only i use the computer, so have no need for any networks, or sharing or anything like that.
my main uses are general internet browsing, writing word docs, photoshop, watching films and playing music...
its a mini 7" laptop, on win xp home, so i am looking to disable as much unneccesay resources as possible as its a bit slow
thanks

Swtich to "classic mode". Defrag, look at processes as well when looking what to untick in msconfig (search on net for each one). If you don't search your drives for files many times, disable indexing. Right click on each drive, properties, untick indexing at bottom of general tab. Use vlc media player for videos...it's less resource hungry than media player (and does not need extra codecs to be downloaded).
