The Kinks
I'm watching a documentary about them with Ray Davis and I hadn't realised how prolific - and how good - they were. Brilliant! Any fans out there?

And as a result missed out on a lot of the international acclaim other groups got, but stayed at home and worked on their 'Englishness' to brilliant effect. (They didn't sing Bus Stop, unless Prudie got a private performance.)
So, um, how do anarchists agree on having a symbol?

oh, I see what you mean, andy. I meant they never got there at the height of their fame in the mid-60s. The Americans' loss, Britain's gain, I think.
Naomi, your avatar has changed on my screen. I have recorded the Kinks programme. I remember them from way back - You Really Got Me is thought by many to be the first punk record (not by me, it was a sort of version of Louie Louie) and Arthur as the first rock opera, before the Who's Tommy.

Thanks for letting me know jno. It's clearly changed on Sandy's screen too. As for the Kinks - funny you should say that about You Really Got Me being considered the first Punk record (not that I'd agree either) but watching the video of 'Dedicated Follower of Fashion' with the band dressed in their frills and finery, they reminded me very much of the new romantics - Adam Ant et al. It hadn't occurred to me before but I think they have wielded enormous influence over the years and throughout the generations. Enjoy the programme.
DT, happy to help. :o)
