Altering Sense UI on HTC Desire

This might be one for Chuck or other Android users on here.

I don't have a problem with HTC Sense on my Desire, but I'd like to try out the stock Froyo UI on it. Thing is, I don't want to root my handset. I've looked online and used the Android store to download a home switcher, but I don't know what launcher to download to use a stock Android UI for 2.2?

Any suggestions?

look in settings > manage applications > htc sense > clear defaults then press the home button and it should then give you the option to turn the sense interface off (works on a HTC wildfire so hopefully will work on a desire too)

(this is why I made sure I got a phone with the proper android interface as standard :))

lol I've tried that. I saw a video on Youtube showing a demo of it. It doesn't work on 2.2 though, as there is no other open for a launcher to use when clearing the defaults for Sense, so it stops sense and then loads it back up again.

What phone do you have out of interest?

I've just been checking and found the same, it seems they got rid of that way of doing it in 2.2.... meanies :)

I have a cheapo one, a samsung galaxy europa, not a bad little phone, with little being the operative word, I didn't really want something too large to have to carry about all the time. the huge screens are nice but not very pocket friendly.

Anyhow... have a look in the market place, you should be able to find a 2.2 and a 2.3 launcher, install one of them (I've just tried the 2.3 one) and then repeat the steps to disable sense and you should be able to choose the launcher you've just installed.

Of course, sense is more than just the launcher, it also gives you a few other custom front ends such as the dialer, but again you can always replace those with either a 3rd party one or the standard one.

P.S.

You'll use all your home screen icons when you change launcher and will have to move them all from the main app list again.
