buying slaves

Can any kind soul help, this is driving me crazy!

A man was given £100 to buy 100 slaves

Male slaves cost £10.00 each
Female slaves cost 50p each
Children cost 12 and a half pence each (4 for 50p)

how many of each did he buy?
how did he do it?

He bought 49 females = £24.50
He bought 44 children = £5.50

Well done! turnermjw. My Answerbank friend to the rescue. I think starbuckone has a point, my brain must be running on one cylinder; my excuse is wayyyyy too much Christmas pud and Cognac laced cream...'hic'.
