Miami

Myself and a friend are considering spending a week in Miami in July. As i've never been there before, I need to know if it's like an American version of Ibiza, with loads of lagered up Brits staggering about? Also, is it fairly safe for tourists, as in recent years it's had a reputation as one of America's most violent cities? Cheers.

It's not full of lagered up Brits, it's actually quite smart and stylish. If you are driving, take care, as you can go from an affluent area to one where people live in corrugated iron shacks quite quickly. You may well be as safe as houses, but you may not feel it. Don't pick an argument with other drivers, I was told by a native that 90% of Florida registered cars will have a gun in the glove box, but have no way (thankfully) of knowing if that is true. I had a wonderful time there, the people were fantastic and welcoming, the weather gorgeous, and the whole thing not too expensive.
