Australian Migrant
Does anyone know how long I could expect to wait for a visa to join our daughter who lives in Australia? I am eligible under the 'Aged Parent' subclass but according to the Immigration website if I choose to go the 'non contributory' route (which means I pay approx £3000 for myself and husband) we can face a wait of up to 20 years! As we are in our mid sixties now, it's not really an option. The Aged Parent Contributory visa would cost £50,000 and cuts the waiting time to 2 years but we still need somewhere to live etc and is an awful big chunk of money.

I would expect there is no way around things and you would either have to wait the requisite amount of time or pay the money.
My mum's friend is about to do it. I'm not sure of the ins and outs of what they've paid but they are retired and it has taken 18 months so far (and still no news)
