The answer is TORN, i.e. something RENT or TORN. However, I have some sympathy with TORE, the use of rent as a verb, i.e. He rent it, he tore it. On balance and because I know, the one they want is TORN.

Many thanks for suggestions; definitely ambiguous and irritating
(as you'd expect, the Chambers Crossword dictionary lists both tore and torn
under rent).

Hi Frameshift, If you're entering todays Sunday Times crossword beware.

When I entered at 8am - I supposedly made one mistake and no one else had got a completely right solution - which makes me think its The Times that have made the mistake.

It might be best to read any discussions there and here before entering.

That's the third time that it has happened then in the last two weeks. It always promotes a great deal of gossip on the forum. They probably have the same problems that the members have when typing in, freezing frames, difficult saving mechanism, etc all making for easy typos.

Comments made in this post refer to The Times Crossword Club - I am not a member and it puzzled me as to how things work when entries are made online. Are you told if your entry is correct when you enter? If you are, can you then submit a second, amended, entry?
