I have got a cough and for some reason tonight....

my right ear feels like I have been swimming or up in a plane. I haven't done either. I can't for the life of me, pop it and its driving me insane and starting to hurt. Tried holding my nose and blowing, but it won't pop, neither will it pop when I yawn.

You've probably got some hardened wax in your inner ear. It's really annoying cos you cant hear properly either. Try not to mess with it anymore tonight,and get Optrex ear drops later on. They'll break up the wax gently. They always work well for me :-)

catarrh can make your ears feel full and a bit weird. Perhaps you should see the doctor in case you have an ear infection.

I always get this when I get a cold, mine's always sinus related and is usually cleared with Sudafed or just waiting it out.

Sounds like Eustachian tube obstruction secondary to your cold.
Nip into the chemist for Otrovine Nasal spray or Ephedrine nasal spray which should do the trick.
Monitor the ear situation for 48 hours.
