It's just a case of being given a third option I'd think it more likely that people will ditch half pints in favour of the bigger glass than downsizing from a pint.

I will buy anyone a pint who can stop this rule coming in. How stupid is that new measure? In Germany and the Continent they sell beer in litres, so a pint is quite small enough.

Has any ABers ever bought another a pint? Your kind advice is worth that amount and, in some cases, a lot more.

Pub prices are ridiculous enough as it is, pubs are ruined, the only ones surviving seem to be poncified eateries - RIP the traditional cosy pub I used to know and love.

Furthermore, if the nanny state keeps ploughing ahead with ridiculus price increases on beer, this particular beer fan will never buy any again and will be brewing his own for the rest of his beer-drinking life (because I can ..HA !).

You must live in the wrong place AP we've loads of proper traditional pubs in Somerset they don't charge the earth for a pint either.

I saw this in the Daily Mail, and I was amazed they hadn't noticed it is a backdoor way of forcing us to drink beer in metric measures.

Two thirds of a pint is 378ml these are 400ml metric glasses.

Ah ok, maybe it is a bit cheaper in some places (eg. Wetherspoon pubs) or for weak p!sswater beer but I have had to pay best part of four quid for a pint a few times - SW London.

I love these so called news stories! To be honest I could not care less if I buy a pint of beer or a 1/2 litre of beer, as long as it tastes the same and the prices are not artificially put up for any reason then what does it matter what unit it's measured in?

This old cynic thinks you lot have missed the p(o)int! The pint as a measure was used as a standard for beer to prevent exploitation by profiteering publicans. If we go back to more flexible measures then we shall be in the same boat as the wine drinkers who can't be sure how big a glass of wine they are getting. If they stick to a pint or a litre so what its that flexible approach I'm suspicious of.

Jake where is the problem with alcohol intake and driving, if you follow a simple rule of thumb you will never be caught out. If you are driving dont drink alcohol full stop, too many people think that being under the limit means they are safe to drive. Studies have shown that just one unit of alcohol is enough to impair your judgement and reactions, so surely the size of the drink is not that important in that respect!!

I think this is a bit of mud stirring by whoever wrote the article BUT if it isn't, I wonder what the environmental impact of recycling all the millions of pint glasses currently in circulation would be?
