Does anyone know how the winners are actually picked? Is it a case of all the envelopes being put into a drum and randomly picked? Or is there more to it? I've noticed over the years that the same winners were picked (sometimes in consecutive issues) in the BBC History Magazine. I even wrote in to query, but was only told how observant I was! I tend to do the Crusader/Radio Times/Sunday Mail/Sunday Express. Have any of you ever won any of these?

My Mum once read in The Telegraph that all xword entries were tipped on the floor & winners picked from there! She once one the silver pen in the Saturday Telegraph and a few runners up.I've been runner up three times,1973 & then twice last year!
Years of postage has yielded nothing! Does the use of Tippex disqualify entries I wonder?
I wonder often too but I enter a lot of competitions as well as crosswords. I've won a few competitions, mostly in local mags and newspapers, that have brought CDs, DVD.s books, childrens toys, clothes, supermarket vouchers, a continental holiday which I unfortunately could not take. And a publishing contract.

Crosswords; Both my wife and I won YOU runners up one week apart and I have won Sunday Mirror bonus, runners up, but I enjoy the crosswords more I think because it's good braintraining and as someone with an awful memory due to a medical condition, I'm glad that AB is here to help me out if and when needed and I like to use it to check I HAVE got them all right too!

One has to have a positive attitude I think, tho' I think it fails with the Lotto. We won it once, only 1500, but thats always better than a smack in the chops eh?

Don't think negatively. My wife buys the Lotto tickets and always says "don't why I bothered" before the draw, so the chance is gone. As for the 'luck gene', one could well be right. My Dad always says we have the wrong name, so you can see what I'm up against.

Finishing crosswords these days is a feat. If I win, it's a bonus, just need more bonuses now...

All your comments have been interesting and encouraging. We all love crosswords and will continue doing them - we do feel a sense of accomplishment when we finish them - and who knows, I might be a winner soon!
