My wife`s laptop has developed a problem. Firstly, it froze, so she turned it off manually with the on/off switch. She then switched on again but after about 5 seconds it switched itself off, then after about another 5 seconds it switched itself on. This off - on sequence continued indefinitely. The PC would not respond to our attempts to turn it off. The only way we could stop it was to remove the battery. We replaced the battery, connected the mains power and tried again, but the same thing happened. It`s a HP Compaq Presario. Anyone any suggestions? Thanks.

Try this
Remove the battery and the AC power source Next hold down the power button for about 20 seconds and let it go. Then connect the battery and start the computer then see if it can be shut down as normal. If this fixes it then connect the AC power and see if shuts as normal.
