they will be cooked if you start them raw, but if you prefer them to also LOOK cooked, brown them first
I would grill them first trt. Depending on the quality of the sausages you get some awful muck run out when you do grill them. If you put them in straight away all that muck will form part of your stew!
Sorry - casserole.
I'd brown them in a dry pan beforehand.
i like mine soft and squidgy and the skins to fall off so i dont grill them first
I always just used to chuck them in when I made casseroles (not in a slow cooker though). They did look a little anaemic but were always cooked.
I like to brown mine first, if not, although they are cooked they don't look appetising!.....Hope you enjoy!.......
Surely the other casserole juices tenderise the sausage though 4getmenot? I put plenty of things in such s water, olive oil, Worcester sauce etc so they would marinade well.

Have you seen how much fat comes out of, e.g Richmond sausages, when you fry them?!! You definitely wouldn't want to include that fat in your casserole!! Fry first to de-grease (and improve appearance).
Definately, grill or fry first.
Definitely cook them first to make them nice and brown - I hate them if they're pale.
