Hi, I currently rent 3 stables and two paddocks and I am thinking about asking the landlord if we can put a static caravan on site for us to live in so we can be close to our horses. Can anyone tell if if this is legally possible?

You will need planning permission for change of use. Almost definitely impossible.
You will need planing permission.
Think you will find that after 30 days they will charge you the council tax bill for that area.
I think this depends on the area you live in, different local authorities have different policies. I do feel sure you will need planning permission, neighbours can get quite sniffy about caravans so I wouldn't try it without at least asking the planning dept.
If you can show that you need to be there for a good deal of your time and especially if the location is some distance from home you might just get it approved. It might help if the location is sheltered i.e. hidden from view. Security might also be a consideration, if horses in the locality have been stolen or attacked then they are more likely to allow an application. Finally you might consider getting the backing of your councillor on the basis of - tain't what you know it's who you know.

Thanks peeps is what I thought, it would be well out of site to be fair and the landlord lives on site so tecnically it would be in his garden or on land that is already lived on, I'm not bothered about council tax not doing it to avoid paying bills etc just want to live closer to my horses.
I think you'll find that what the neighbours think will not be the main obstruction to planning consent.

Once it's been approved for living then you could go for a permanent residence and build a house.

As could lots of other people in a similar situation and there would be building all over the place. Best of luck but don't get your hope up I think it's highly unlikely that you'll get permission
Seemingly, as long as you vacate the caravan for a certain number of weeks of the year, you are not liable for council tax. The downside is that the postman won't deliver, you will need a PO Box No.
