I thought that the cotton wool just filled up the gap in the bottles.
?

you lot must be ancient, cotton wool in a bottle?
Oi, not so much of the ancient. I can remember when liquid medicine came in bottles stopped with a cork.

I can remember the cotton wool in tablet bottles - but my first experience of ribbed items (before condoms.....) was the horrible tight sweaty choking polo necks mother made me wear.
