harissa
11 Answers
have decided to do jamies moroccan lamb thing for saturday evening, been to asda and bought the ingredients...apart from flatbreads and harissa, neither of which i could find. would naan or chapatti be acceptable for the flatbread (is that actually what flatbread is?)? anyone had harissa paste as this recipe calls for it to be swirled through yoghurt as an accompaniment and i wonder if i miss it out altogether would it matter? thanks.

Barts spices do an Harissa which is relatively mild if you buy the Alfez brand it is a little hotter. Also you might find the Belazu Rose Petal harissa which is divine.
As always with spice blends add a little and taste as you go. I made a homemade batch recently and it was eye-wateringly strong, I knew I was going to need an industrial quantity and thought it would be more cost effective to make it myself - it's going to last me a very long time as a little goes a long, long way!

went to tesco and they didn't have harissa, shop assistant looked at me as if i'd asked for dodo eggs! bought a jar of thai red curry paste and on checking the ingredients of harissa on-line they're very similar. as it's only for putting a spoonful swirled through some yoghurt, think i'll make it do.
