Poor men of Europe
3 Answers
On a trip to Europe at the moment.
Speaking with some Swiss and French collegues.
One of them is 51 and about to be made redundant.
Was feeling sorry for him, until he told me that he will get a very large serverance package ...approx 2 years pay and French unemployment insurance (State run) will give him 60% of his current salary for just over 3 years. Guess 60% , almost matches what you get net each month anyway.
Why can't we have a system like this in the uk ?
The French pay 6.4% of salary into scheme ..4% by employer and 2.4% by employee...
We should have a thing like this in the UK ....
oh we have ...it's called N.I. and costs more ....but pays nowt ..

I think the UK is fast becoming a terrible country to live in.
We are becoming a slave nation and everything is overpriced and we are getting ripped off left, right and centre i.e. fuel, clothes, gadgets, electrical items, cars and the list goes on. We get less holidays then our European neighbours.
Not sure where I would like to live though. I haven't given...

Oh England went to pot years ago.
The goverment opened the doors and decided to educate , feed and heal the world.
You see we paid for it. Now the pot is empty.
Hate to be like this ...but thats my view.
I expect nothing back for what I have paid in over the last 30 years.
So I have private health insurance , sickness scheme at work (70% of salary for life) and private pensions (For what they are worth).
Europe now laughs at us poor British.
In Geneva at the moment and with 1.4CHF to the pound , feel very poor.
Even a McDonalds meal with Flurry costs £13.50 ...for one person.
Chinese meal tonight ...
Crab meat and corn soup
Noodles and Chicken
Glass of diet coke ...drum roll = £28 ...ouch
On expenses thank god ...
The pound is shot ...
