Ever received compensation from a major store?

On the back of gaspanics 'Food with no filling' thread' in F & D.

I have.I bought candles from Tescos.One went on fire (you couldnt make it up) and there were sparks flying everywhere.I took the remainders down to the store and was asked to provide evidence of damage and cost to replace.
I duly did same day and within 48hrs I receieved a cheque for 1K.
Result and the spark marks are still in the carpet -only expected another packet of candles as well (there was 8 in the pack not 4 lol).
There was notices in the paper withdrawing the product in days-might have guessed lol

I think if you get charged the wrong price now at Tesco you get your money back and the item for free.
