Changing Food

Max has always been fed on Beta dried food, first Puppy and now Pet Maintenence. Today while picking up his food I was browsing round the shop and noticed that they did a "Senior" food and it set me thinking at what age would one change a dogs diet, Max is now nine, and just what are the advantages if any of this type of food?

Sorry I only know about cats and its age 7 years for their change it is less fattening and has more vitamins in it

The cat food I buy tells you what age to swap ie kitten, senior, did it not say on the dog food?

i think its 7 for dogs as well cassie is on beta senior and she is just 9

thanks everbody for your replies, it was something I never even thought about till this afternoon. I think I might get a bag of senior and gradually change over

If the food he is on suits him and he has a normal activity level I would leave it. If he has slowed down a lot or is putting on weight then the Senior might suit him as it will be more suited to an older dog's lifestyle. My 13, 14 and 15 year olds are still on 'adult maintenance' Eukanuba, they go for a long run every day and are full of energy still.

Once again everybody thanks for your replies. At the moment Max seems as fit and active as he's ever been, he gets at least two good walks a day and he would be ready for more if I was up to it, so I think I'll stick with the diet he's on

I saw one of my GSD 'puppies' last night - he will be thirteen next month. He's a big gold sable dog, and he still recognises me by my scent when he comes into the training hall - you can see him sniffing the air and then finds me - don't know if thats a good thing or whether it means I smell lol. He still has five minutes on the floor doing a bit of heelwork, so he doesn't get jealous of his owner's younger dog.
