Childrens clothes sizing

HI, can anyone help. I am looking to try and get Jodphurs for my 11 year old nice. She is just about 5ft but slim so we normally buy her things aged 12 or she has had a couple of items in an adult size 6 or 8. I have been looking online to try and buy her some jodphurs(tesco are out of stock) but when I look at childrens stockists they seem to be in size 26 or 28 etc? Can anyone advise what size I should be getting for her is sized in the way? I wanted to try getting these without bothering my sister or neice trying to get info (basically wanting them to be a surprise!). thanks

the 26/28 will probably refer to her waist size. My 10 year old son who usually wears age 12 (he's just over 5 foot and is also slim built) has size 28 swimming trunks - the fitted knee length ones - and they are a good fit, so if I had to guess i would say a 28 should be good

thanks that is good advice annie - I notice one place that has a 28 long so probably should go for that then would you say?

I would, I think that 5 foot is quite tall for an 11 year old girl - better slightly big that too small - she's not likely to get any smaller, and is probably about the age for growth spurts in a girl. My son is very tall and not yet old enough to have done the fastest bit of growing - I just hope he doesn't end up like Peter Crouch (not that i'd mind the money!!)

yeh she does seem to have had a growth spurt recently - don't mind things being too long, as you say will only get taller but she is slim. I am tall too but my sister is not so tall and her dad is not so tall, she seems to have got her height from me ha ha! Is nice though she embraces it even though her friends are small - I used to be seen crouching at the back of the class photos along with the boys. I am just over 5ft 9 which is not too bad but always wished I had stayed at about 5ft 6. Good for guys to be tall but not so much for girls although at least can get trousers long enough these days - not like when I was young!

same here joannie - I am 5'10 and I could rarely get trousers long enough when I was young - used to resort to getting them made for me. Nowadays if anything they are too long, I usually get the long length from Next but for some reason ordered some in their Tall length - they completely drowned me and were dragging on the floor! Changed days!!

My other half is 6 2" but my boys are on target to be between 6'4 and 6'7 - the 10 year old has size 6 feet and the 9 year old size 5. I only take a 6, soon I'll be getting their cast off trainers.

Hope your neice is pleased with new jodphurs.

Your 11 year old "nice"? Do you mean your 11 year old neice? Sorry I can not be of help, but I can always tell people when the spelling is wrong.

thanks for letting me know JonnyBoy - I will take more care in future, it was typed in a hurry. People seemed to know what I was talking about though as I did get the advice I needed.
