Myxoma is a benign muscle tumour which can occur any where in the body, but in your case...the Mitral Valve. I question this as this is a moat unusual site for this condition....the most commonest site in the heart is the left atrium, which is indeed close to the Mitral valve.
Please confirm that you mean Mitral Valve and NOT left atrium.

Thanks for replying sqad. Yes it is on one of the leaflets of the mitrel valve, they also said it is really rare. Its size is 6mm x 6mm, they are just going to measure it once a year by an ultra sound scan. I read on the internet that they can snap off and travel to cause a heart attack of a stroke, is there much chance of this.
Well.....this is a complicated picture that you have painted and I would say that you have a Myxoma arising from the wall of the left atrium and involving the Mitral Valve and operating would involve removing the tumour and replacing the mitral valve at the same time. This doesn´t sound very optimistic, but in fact the results of this operation are quite acceptable in terms of heart surgery.
Yes, I have to be honest and say that without operation, you do stand an outside chance of emboli (clots) detaching themselves and lodging in more distant parts of your body.
However, you Cardiologist will be well aware of this and is balancing the threat of emboli against the danger of surgical intervention at this moment.
If I can be of any more help, then please let me know.

Thank you so much sqad for replying. They said it is a huge operation ie heart lung bypass machine type operation and as you say they are waiting to see whats best. Another word they use is Fibro-elastoma which is ment to be the same thing, I think. I'm back at the hospital in just under two weeks to see if its grew. Thank you again.
