CORRUPTED HARD DRIVE

Computer does not follow instructions I give it; an expert (friend) concluded hard drive is corrupted. Very likely as other annoying things also happen. I do have Kaspersky Pure 2010-11 installed and I do remember when downloading a program once i clicked on something that said it'd clean up my computer. It is since then that am experiencing these. I have vista home that came with the laptop.
How do I fix it? (he has full time job and little time to worry about my laptop)
He did suggest to remove ALL programs, even the vista and start again???? but how do I even begin to do it?

You may want to mention a few details such as the make and model of laptop and did you get any recovery disks with it.

Download, install, update and run in safe mode freeware application called malwarebytes,

Run FULL anti-virus scan in safe mode.

If still problems, try system restore.

- I did not get recovery discs, but did my own;
- make is HP , model G70000; with loads of memory space;

It seems the clean up utility has damaged the registry.
If you want to restore factory settings, start tapping F11 immediately you switch on to bring up the option.
Back up any personal files to external first as it will be restored to exactly as it was when you bought it.

Thank you everybody, my epert friend has spent 4 hours on it and cleaned up the hardrive: he said it was not virus, just my profile corrupte; well it was enough to mess me ujp.
Now hoewever I have another problem: files and attachements I could openwithout any difficulty befoore it was cleaned up, now can not. Tried al programs I could think of, have installed or browsed on the net, still no success. So one probolem solved lead to an other!
If anyone can give advice, I shall be very grateful, thanks to all.
files are some doc, some pictures/videos sent by email.
