DVD clips to AVI format

Hi, I'd like to convert short sections of different DVDs to AVI format so I can edit them into a montage with Adobe Premiere, what is the best program to do this? I don't want to waste time converting a full DVD to AVI.

ImToo DVD Ripper (just google it) is an excellent program, allowing you to convert sections of a DVD to a format of your choice (providing you have the codecs installed). But it costs. There are loads of free ones out there if you search on them, maybe someone else here can recommend one...
