After watching the programmes about the horrendous waste of perfectly good fish would all people who feel that they can help sign up at fishfight.net. Over the last 24 hours over 150,000 people have signed the online petition, lets see if we can get it up to 1 million. Thanks to everyone who has a conscience and signs the petition.

Exactly how are they intending to change this?

Abolish the quotas and there will be no fish in the North sea in 10 years flat.

The best way is to take a sweeping cut through the fishing fleets so there are simply a lot fewer boats licensed to fish.

Then your TV news will be full of shots of mournful trawler men on the dole.

This campaign doesn't seem to have a solution it just wants something, anything done.

Personally that sounds like a blank cheque to me and I won't be signing petitions that vague

The idea is to take away the quota (ie land everything they catch) but only let the fishermen/trawlers fish for a limited number of days. That way the fisherman make their money the same and hundreds of thousands of fish are not thrown dead back into the sea.

When I last checked the figure is racing toward half a million ( should be by monday). The fishing debate is such a minefield I doubt politicians know where to start, but I did hear the following. Apparently when a boat is decommissioned the skipper/owner has a quota allowance which he apparently retains, but as he has no boat can no longer use it. So he rents his quota to other skippers who can then catch his quota of fish, even though his boat has been scrapped and he has been compensated. It's a mad world!!

How would you stop the seas emptying of fish if you removed the quotas?

If the skippers were allowed land everything accidentally caught, what would stopthem catching everything?

The seas are being emptied anyway,if an ill thought quota system means dead fish-that CAN'T be landed-are thrown back in. That certainly is NOT right.
