...a lean sausage....the probelm is I adore the smell and sausages cooking, but i avoid eating them as any I have had were just mouthfulls of fat and gristle...what are the best pre-pacled supermarket ones - or should I just go for fresh ones from a butchers ? I want to start eating them again....without the fear of biting on a chunk of 'gag' inducing gristle as it just puts me off...
PP, are you sure you arent my daughter? she could have wrote the above, terrified of biting into sausage because of GRISTLE!!!! She actually has found a sausage she will eat, Richmond, you know the pink ones, she reckons there is no gristle what so ever. Try them.
have you thought about making them...then you can control what goes in?
Not sure who gives courses here without googling. I went on a course at my deli just outside Paris many years ago, sausages/andouilletes, blood sausages (boudin noir et blanc), terrines, rillettes etc - a lot of fun!
thanks all! Smiling @ bloomwood now...are Richmond pork sausages ? I am minded that the BBQ season is not far away again and as I hate burgers (for the same reason) I am limited as to what i eat at friends BBQs...as not many people i know seem, to cook things such as fish or chicken on their BBQs as it can be expensive, so cheap burgers and sausages are on the menu...
Agree with mcfluff, but it has to be Tesco Finest - some of their flavour sausages are lovely. Try the Aberdeen Angus beef one, or pork and apricot, or pork and red onion <<oh dear, my mouth is watering>>
I have started buying thin pork sausages from a local butcher which everyon seems to love in our house, and whilst I don't eat sausages I will eat one of these in a hot dog roll if I am doing them for the kids and I am really hungry.
There are sausages by Mr Edwards of Conway. They sell them in Tesco and in Asda, but I don't know if it is all the UK or just in Wales. They are FABULOUS but are MUCH dearer than most sausages. Well worth a try.
we sometimes get ours from Abel & Cole (abel-cole.co.uk) and sometimes from Morrisons (from butchers counter, not pre-packed). Not sure where you are re A&C but worth checking out.
