How far in advance of a wedding do you need to order your dress? A relative recently got married and because they organised their wedding in 7 months, she said she had trouble finding somewhere that would order and fit her dress in that time. 7 months! Surely it can't take that long?!

a lot of people start looking about a year before, then get the fittings started 6 months before, it is a big buy and needs lots of thought and work

I know someone who recently got married and apparantly it is best to order about six months before due to any alterations, fittings etc etc.  It does seem a bit surprising but I guess they must be made to measure and then they have to allow for any alterations.
I got mine handmade in a lovely shop in Chester in 3 months, it was over the winter though, so I suppose a quiet time of year.
I picked mine in October 2003, for a March 2004 wedding.  It was an off-the-peg job, so it just had to be taken up to fit me as I'm a shortarse!  If you are going for something made-to-measure though, I should think that you'll need to order more in advance, to allow time for fittings and adjustments.

uh oh - I'm getting married next July and had planned on losing weight by then - getting fitted 6 months in advance kinda focuses the attention!
